Yesterday I had one of THOSE days. It happens every once in a while. I’m sure you know what I mean. It’s hard to juggle it all and sometimes mistakes happen.
I woke up, made breakfast and lunches for everyone, threw in a load of laundry dropped my 8 year old off at school at 7am, came home checked emails, got myself and my other two kids ready and then took them to school at 9am.
That’s when it happened. I saw all the cute little kiddos in their costumes walking in the school. I looked back at my kids in the rear view mirror. Just as I suspected, no costumes. I looked back at the school then at the clock. I had a meeting to be at by 9:30 It would take me 20 minutes to get there.
I looked back at my son again and I said, “Oh no, today you were supposed to wear costumes!” And then I waited. I wasn’t sure what to do next. Then he looked at me with that look that could have easily tuned into tears and said “You know mom, kids can be late.” I said “Yep, your right. We’re going home.”
I called and left a message with the woman I was meeting and told her that I would be there late and we headed home.
We got home, got the costumes on, rushed back to school and first thing my son’s teacher asked me was if I had pizza money. What?!? Pizza too? I ran back to the car and gathered up a couple of dollars and gave it to his teacher.
I got to my meeting at 10:15 just as the woman I was meeting got there and luckily for me she was having one of THOSE days too. She hadn’t even listened to my message yet. We had our meeting and all went well and I went about the rest of my day which consisted of more emails, a couple of phone calls, pick up kids, a blog post, and the rest of our evening routine. Then I climbed into bed and let out a big sigh! Whew!
Luckily I was able to correct the situation and take the time out to make it right with my kids. Truth is those kind of days happen and we often don’t talk about our Mommy mistakes but we all make them in some way or another. It’s not about a race for perfection but being the best Mommy we know how imperfections and all. Next time you have one of THOSE days remember to stop take a deep breath and continue on. We’ve all been there.
Have you ever had one of those days?
